About the role
QT Melbourne is searching for a Chief Engineer. Working alongside other Heads of Departments you will be empowered to lead a team of maintenance professionals responsible for protecting the integrity of the hotel building, plant and equipment through general, routine and preventative maintenance of hotel assets, building compliance and safe operation including the effective maintenance service to all departments within the hotel.
You will oversee maintenance staff and contractors and may work in both an office setting and across the property, addressing Mechanical/HVAC, Fire, Electrical, Hydraulics and other Engineering building services type issues including building compliance matters.
The Chief Engineer is a key senior leadership role within the hotel management structure reporting directly to the General Manager (QT Melbourne) along with the General Manager (Hotel Engineering & FM).

Skills & experience
- 5+ years’ experience as a Maintenance Manager or Chief Engineer;
- Trade background, trade diploma, engineering degree or other relevant tertiary qualification;
- 5-star hospitality experience;
- Engineering experience;
- Outstanding professional written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent customer service skills and a professional demeanour;
- Be able to problem solve effectively, logically and resourcefully;
- Ability to:
- read, understand Engineering floor plans;
- identity, manage and seek resolution to building defects;
- perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy;
- prioritize and organize;
- be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgement;
- follow directions thoroughly and accurately;
- understand guest service needs;
- works cohesively with co-workers as part of a team;
- works with minimal supervision;
- maintains confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data;
- ascertain departmental training needs and provide such training;
- direct performance of staff and follow up with corrections when needed.
