About the role

As an integral member of the Hotel’s Executive Leadership team, the Financial Controller will be responsible for all aspects of finance and accounting services, contributing to the development and implementation of the strategic and business plans and providing financial data and reports to the Hotel Owners, General Manager and Department Managers.  The role is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, reporting directly to the General Manager. 

This is a role suited to a person with a highly-analytical mindset, a can-do attitude, results and data oriented, keen eye for detail and an ability build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels of management. 

  • Provide operational financial support and advice to the General Manager and Department Managers
  • Assist the General Manager in strategic 
  • Execute and promote a disciplined financial control environment, with a focus on cost control, efficiency and accuracy 
  • Liaise with the Hotel Owners for financial information, data and reporting
  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly reports including but not limited to; month end P&L’s, revenue, forecasting and payroll 
  • General ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, preparations and submissions of monthly, half-yearly and yearly reporting requirements
  • Coordinate any legal and/or regulatory reporting requirements 
  • Manage of team of four accounting professionals including day-to-day tasks, rosters and career development

Skills & experience 

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience as a Financial Controller or similar senior position 
  • Bachelor of Business, Commerce, Finance and/or Accounting 
  • CPA or CA qualification preferred but not essential 
  • Experience within a medium to large Hotel/Hospitality operation preferred but not essential
  • Demonstrated high-level experience and understand of Australian financial regulations, processes and procedures
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic financial goals that drive business growth and efficiencies 
  • High level administrative skills with the financial analytical mindset 
  • Experience working in fast paced and high volume operations 
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and systems, with advanced skills in Microsoft Office programs
  • Highly motivated and excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships while driving employee engagement and development 
  • Excellent personal presentation and a high level of professionalism
  • Enthusiasm, friendly nature and goal orientated 
  • Ability to handle high pressure situations and adapt to operations
