Event Cinemas Miranda to open Sydney’s newest IMAX cinema this December

Extended partnership with IMAX brings state-of-the-art screen and sound to Sydney’s south, as premium formats reach 40% of all Event Cinemas ticket sales

EVT today announced that Event Cinemas Miranda will open a new IMAX with Laser cinema this December, becoming EVT’s second IMAX location in Sydney and the latest milestone in the Group’s ongoing premiumisation of its entertainment offering.

Event Cinemas Miranda will be EVT's second IMAX location in Sydney and fourth in Australia, building on the strength of IMAX Sydney at Darling Harbour, one of the top four performing IMAX locations globally. The expansion comes amid record global momentum for the IMAX format, with recent release The Odyssey now the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time.

The new cinema will feature IMAX with Laser projection and 12-channel IMAX precision sound, with a range of seating formats designed to suit every customer:

• Private Box Seats. The auditorium’s most premium format, set apart from the rest of the room for guests who want extra space, privacy and comfort for a date night or a night out with friends.
• Full Recliners. A custom-built recliner seat designed for Event Cinemas, with generous legroom and a full stretch recline, bringing the comfort of a lounge room to the cinema.
• Standard premium seats. Event Cinemas’ original seat, and still the biggest and best in the standard range, offering a spacious, comfortable seat at everyday value.

The IMAX cinema is the first stage of a broader upgrade at Event Cinemas Miranda, with further refurbishments in 2027 that will provide Miranda customers one of the most complete ranges of premium cinema choices in Sydney.

The new Event Cinemas Miranda IMAX will open in time for the highly anticipated final instalment of the Dune trilogy, which has selected scenes Filmed for IMAX.
